February is Black History Month, and this year, Northwest Academy is looking forward to celebrating not just Black history, but Black Excellence! We look forward to guest speakers from right here in Portland, workshops, and even a couple of opportunities for parent engagement.
Please see the schedule below so that you all can mark your calendars for the great events* that we have prepared!
February 1, 9:50-10:50 am: Artist Panel
Middle and high school students will hear from two Black women artists living and working in Portland, Intisar Abioto and MomoPixel. They will tell us about their artistic journies as well as their experiences as Black artists in Portland.
Come explore and converse about a handful of up and coming Black artists that range from contemporary to obscure. Some of the genres that will be exhibited are singers, painters, graphic designers, and more! This is a relaxed gallery exhibit that you’ll hopefully want to come and stay a while so bring some tea, snacks, and your thoughts to the Virtual Gallery Tour.
There will hopefully be a link to the gallery if you’re unable to make the event or want to view the works more after the event.
All parents and guardians are invited for a conversation about Portland's Black History. This will be a bit of a primer for our larger community event at the end of the month
We invite the entire Northwest Academy community together for a conversation around the Black Lives Matter movement specific to Portland, featuring expert panelists
