Melissa Bertran

MELISSA BERTRAN is a Spanish teacher from Venezuela. She was born and raised in Caracas and spent her summers in Spain. She studied literature and specialized in Latin American literature. Melissa started teaching Spanish and literature at middle and high school levels in Venezuela 20 years ago. She moved to New York City in 2008 and to Portland in 2012. She lives with her husband and two kids and she loves to run, bake and read.  Melissa has been with Northwest Academy since 2016.

    Northwest Academy students write two substantial, college-level thesis projects in their senior year. All juniors and seniors receive college credit through the PSU Challenge Program.

    About 25% of Northwest Academy students receive scholarship support each year.

    In addition to Community Service requirements in both the middle and high school, the entire school participates in service days during the year.
